Why Alka Seltzer Promotes “Plop Plop, Fizz Fizz,” Not “Plop, Fizz”

Have you ever wondered why Alka Seltzer commercials always shows two tablets, not just one, being dropped into the fizzing water? Well, when I was back on Madison Avenue a fellow agency person shared a marketing research secret with me: Consumers feel that two tablets (and all those bubbles) will deliver more fast relief than just one, although the second one is unnecessary. Shown below are two hilarious (famous) Alka Seltzer TV spots and there’s their spokesman, “Speedy.” Personally, even though Snopes confirms this finding, I’m not switching to a single tablet. If I have heartburn, more has got to be better!
